    Central locking help please.

Hi all, I recently purchased a secondhand defender 110, that has central locking fitted, but it doesn't work. I was aware of this at the time of sale and wasn't particularly worried about it, but after having come from a car with central locking that does work, I have found using the key a little bit inconvienent and I'm thinking about fixing it. My problem is I'm not too sure where to start.

I had been informed by the previous owner that this unit was the culprit.

That water had gotten into it and if it was replaced, the central locking would function once again.?

Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Can anyone help me identify the part or where it would be connected to the vehicle, as I don't know where in the car it came from(it had already been removed) and also where I would source a replacement, if that's what is required.

    Cheers, Mossyoak

Are there any identifying marks/nos. on it?

Can't help identifying it - but all the problems I have ever had with my central locking have been broken wires, usually where they go into the doors.

I would be inclined to look at the cost of an aftermarket kit, and just use the controller from it, if you can't identify that one and get a replacement.

A picture of the remote please - is it a LR item? And what engine does the defender have?

The only marks on the housing are a date, 23/10/03, and some marks around the pins, which I guess correspond to the actuators and the r f antenna.
I took it out of the housing... does this help at all?

The flip side of the circuit board is clearly damaged/corroded.

Probably not a bad idea, depending on the replacement cost of my damaged part. Then if any of the existing actuators go kaput, I'll have some back ups in the shed! Looks like I'll have to do some further research....

I think it is an aftermarket set up...Worldtech was scribbled on a small information booklet I found in the back of the defender owners manual. Although it doesn't have any useful information in it such as specs/model no, etc.
The engine is a 2.5l td5. It seems the system was installed in 2003

There is nothing on the back of the remote.

A quick Google of "TL6200 central locking" came up with this:

Thanks, that certainly looks like what I need. Any ideas on how to obtain one. The site in the link doesn't sell direct as far as I can tell.

    For Mr Oak:

I was reading a post here last October about a 99 defender,

    AS10 alarm, 99 Td5 defender

And I also read a UK forum post about the same thing. Apparently the TD5 ECU needs to 'talk' to some sort of alarm unit to function. Hence, in true LR fashion, an AS10 alarm is fitted, but inactive, to defenders.

(A pic of an AS10 is below)

So, if you find that there is a little green box somewhere behind the dash ( there aren't too many places to hide it), instead think about activating it. You already have the door motors installed, what you'll need are the ultrasonic sensors and wiring from a Disco 2 (If the sensors and wiring are not there already) , and a couple of remotes. A nanocom or a visit to a dealer can sync the remotes, plug in the wiring and away you go.

    It's something to consider.

Also have a read of this site: http://www.remotekey.co.uk/
it explains a little more about the AS10 alarm

Just a note: There is a difference between frequencies used by UK & Aust alarms.
