    Water pump replacement

When replacing the water pump on a 300tdi how clean do the surfaces need to be? Also, does the paper gasket need any adhesive? I'm at a servo in Strahan replacing a faulty pump myself, so not ideal conditions!

Scraped clean with a sharp blade, eg stanley knife or pocket knife should suffice. I recommend a thin smear of sealant on each side of the gasket but you may get away without it. A small tube of gasket silicone should be part of your tool kit.

Replace the three long bolts with new ones, anti sieze the threads, sealant on both sides and all surfaces need to be clean and do all the bolts up,even the pump bolts evenly, very important. If you spend the extra 1/2 hour doing it once correctly you won't have to do it twice. Pat

    Drip fix

    Hi Ranga

Your not in too much strife are you?

I have two brand new pumps here if you need one sent up.

Give me a ring if you need something done and I use Permatex aviation form a gasket cement No3 to seal that gasket. Also, have you a 'P' gasket with you ?
