Hi being in New Zealand we are very limited as to what gearbox oils we can get The Castrol BOT 328 is NZ$120 (A$$90!!!) a litre from the dealer and as my puma is year 2008 and out of warranty I have looked elsewhere.

we can get this Fuchs TITAN in 1 litre containers:
SINTOFLUID manual gearbox oil for NZ$35 a litre trade and has the same Ford recommendation as the Castrol BOT : FORD M2C200-C/C2/C3

    Any opinions please!!!!!!

    • Offers good gearbox efficiency.

    • Offers reliable operation under high loads in manual transmissions during the whole oil operation time (Fill-forlife).

    • Prevents reliably from wear, sludge formation, agglomeration and corrosion.

    • Thermally highly stable and does not foam even under highest stress.

    • Offers a good viscosity temperature behaviour lying above the performance of many normal service gearbox lubricants, thus ensuring lubrication at very low as well as very high operation temperatures.

Should be fine, as long as it meets the specs

    Thread Drag from the Depths

    Hypothetical question

So if one was to have 15L or so of Syntrans Universal 75W-85 in the shed.
And then one was re-grading from an R380 defender to a latte MT82 defender.

Would one keep the drum of said Syntrans GL3/GL4 75W-85 oil for MT82 use?

Or would one be better off moving Syntrans on to an R380 owner and buy the specified GL4 75W-90? ie BOT328 or Motul Gear 300 etc etc?

    Rick?

    Anyone?

    Thanks Muchly

    Steve

    Hmm, not sure Steve.
    BTW, congrats on the purchase.

BOT328 is a 75W-90 and is Land Rovers specified brew.
Ford have been through a number of different blends for their version of the MT82 in the Mustang, I think the current oil is for DCT's, can't recall what the specs were.

I've seen Nissan for one go from a 75W-90 to a 75W-85 to get better shift quality in cars like the 350Z.

FWIW the oil used in the 3.2l BT50 that is my new work ride is Castrol BOT350 M3.
Castrol's aftermarket recommendation is Syntrans FE75W.
It's ATF thin ! In other words a lot lighter than Syntrans Universal.

Fuchs recommend Titan Sintofluid 75W-80, again a lot lighter than your Syntrans 75W-85.
They also recommend the same oil for the MT82 in the Deefer !

If that's the case the gearbox is pretty oil tolerant.

    Rick,
You know what you say goes
Should I try it and see?
As you say unlikely to cause damage? Shift quality will determine ongoing use?

    Rick,

Great, pile the pressure on Steve !

I'd use it, Syntrans Universal is Volvo trucks approved for 3-400,000km so isn't any slouch as far as fluids are concerned, but it does get caned in the R380 thanks to the heat retaining cast iron case and small fluid capacity.

I'd take note of what the fluid you drain now looks like, how much Fe is on the drain plug magnet and then run the Syntrans for 20,000km then drop it and compare.

BTW the factory fill in the US Mustang MT82 is Castrol BOT341, marketed there as Motorcraft Dual Clutch Transmission fluid and from what I can work out is that Castrol Syntrans FE75W mentioned above.
