			Ex-Box Query

					G'day guys,

For those of you with one of Mulgo's Ex-boxes fitted can you please tell me how, if at all, it impacted on gear-changes?

I find that with the standard set-up of cubby box only I have issues changing gears any time I have a drink in either of the holders. Is this exaserbated or improved by the ex-box? Or does it make no difference whatsoever?

 Cheers,

 James

					Hi James

I installed the Ex-Box a few months ago (brilliant by the way Daniel) and find that in the Puma, the throw on the gear lever is short and indeed easy enough to make changing gears a simple wrist movement, while keeping the forearm in a fairly fixed position on the top of the cubby box... the hand remains over the lever...perhaps more so than it used to without the Ex-Box

I think that whatever height your drinks were that were getting in the way, may continue to do so but I haven't had a problem at all with large coffees, a small bottle of Mt Franklin water or cans of soft drinks.

Bottles of wine get in the way. I should think that large bottles of water (500ml+) would too but perhaps one of the other members can advise there.

 Bobby

					Thanks Bobby,

I've never heard anyone speak a bad word about them so I guess I should just take my chances.

It's just that I've found this particularly frustrating and don't want to make things any worse.

The X-box is a great bit of gear.

I find that if I have large coke from Macca's I put in on the left if I am on the freeway or if driving around town put it on the right.

No problems with a standard can or coffee.

					James

I have an Ex Box in my 2008 130 and have made a couple of mods that I think enhance this great addition.

I have replaced the padlock catch with a key operated lock - easy mod
Installed a heat shield on the bottom side of the box and
fitted some noise damping insulation inside the box, which seems to make a big difference.

Also when you fit make sure you install a seal under the box otherwise the uneven surface provides access in to the cab for hot air from under the vehicle - I found out the hard way - open the windows at speed after running for a while and the hot air gets sucked straight in.

 Happy fitting

You can always re-drill the cubby box moving the holes 75mm further forward this will result in the cubby box being located back 75mm giving a bit more room

Thanks Dave, that's really useful advice. I'll keep an eye on that when it comes time to fit it.

Peter, thank you too. I had thought something like that may be the way to go, but without holding the thing in my hands I wasn't sure it was a possibility.

 Cheers guys. Love this site.
