    LT85 shifting problems

My LT85 has started having problems shifting into 1st when stationary. 3rd and 4th are fine, 2nd is usually fine.

It seems like a clutch issue, however the clutch hydraulics are fine.

It is getting so bad that when stationary I can't shift into 1st without shifting into 2/3 beforehand, or blipping the accelerator while the clutch pedal is depressed.

The box is full of Syntrans (which is due for a change).

Time to put a real gearbox in it Ben
Could be mainshaft endfloat or your clutch plate disintegrating and dragging.

combo of clutch drag (can be the spigot bearing as well) worn syncro and bad endfloat adjustment.

The whole vehicles a write off, bring a carton up with you and you can leave it at my place.

    Hmm,

seems I spoke too soon. Took it for a drive this evening and everything was working 100%.

I now suspect the clutch hydraulics. Despite my earlier statement. The clutch has no free play, however the MC is a stainless steel sleeved item from PBP, which has been dodgy from the start... I suspect it may be leaking pressure back to the reservoir...

It would have been nice to have an excuse to fit an isuzu 6-speed

Well, considering it's working perfectly, I'll take it off your hands so you can fit that 6 speed

When I removed the LT85 from my previous County to replace the clutch, I built the gearbox cradle shown in the workshop manual. It made the job easier, as the jack is then exactly under the COG.

If you do end up having to remove the gearbox at any time, you are welcome to borrow the cradle.

    Cheers
