Rijidij 130 rear wheel carrier

I am lucky enough to have the Ridjidij defender 130 RWC prototype on my truck and it is a great piece of kit. Has been on for about 17 months and done about 25000 km. a few little issues fitting as different towbar but worth every cent and could not live without it now.
Has had a couple of hits and still works well. Once some bright spark undid the catch and it swung open as I left the carpark. The wheel swung out and completely took out the boomgate box. Funnily enough they stopped laughing! Just closed it and latched it and left them to it.

I must send some pics and update to Murray.

the latch part just uses the same bolts
see the attached pic (taken from the rijidij site)
on mine i have only used two of the bolt holes as my tow bar mounts one set of holes higher and the lower holes are blanked off.
but i figured if the 110 model only uses 2 bolts, 2 bolts should be enough for mine.

edit: seeing zwitter's post maybe there is an issue? but it looks like he has overcome it

Murray supplies good quality stuff alright. I built this and probably saved $2000.00 over buying commercially available twin wheel carriers.

Well, I can't wait to see the dual bar on the back of a Defender. It's in late prototype stage, so hopefully not too far off.

I'm reluctant to mention a new product at a stage where there's still a fair bit of work to do on it, but I value the opinions of fellow AULRO members, so take a look at these pictures and if you have any constructive criticism or general comments I'd be happy to hear them.

Remember, it's a prototype, so it's raw and looks a bit rough around the edges and doesn't have a coat of shiny paint yet :D .......... Defender Dual Wheel Carrier

The plan is to have the right hand carrier open automatically with the door as the current single carrier does, so if you remove the left hand carrier between trips you wont have any latches to undo before being able to open the back door.
The dual bar can be configured for two wheels, or one wheel and two jerry cans.

Murray I really like it but there is something about the shape of the end pieces I'm not sure of...

I think its because everything on the defender is so blocky and square when something is Shaped it draws your attention.

dont get me wrong it still looks great! and If I had the money I would buyone get rid of the piece of **** carrier we have at the moment which is peeling and rusting.

Have you thought about putting LED's on? durablitity? and if you placed led strips you would laos have more room to play with the shape if you chose too

Are you going to make it available to carrier two whels or just one wheel and jerrys..as I noted you have put a number plate light on the jerrys do You have a solution for the Wheel carrier?

How does the step contact it when its folded up?

G'day Lou,
When you say the shape of the end, are you referring to the back or side view ??
The reason for the height of the bar at the ends is to allow sufficient length of the stub axle to be supported and welded inside the bar.

I definitely like LED's. The lights in the prototype are standard Defender lights, but I've fitted LED globes to them. I personally like the look of the original lights integrated into the bar, but the light panels are separate to the main body of the bar so they can be customised to whatever lights will fit in the available space.

Dual wheels or wheels and jerry's will both be both options. With dual wheels the number plate will most likely have to be mounted on a bracket in the middle of the wheel.

The fold up step does contact the bar and I will most likely remove the step unless I can find a solution to retain it.
