    Replacement Engine.........

Can anybody confirm whether a TD5 engine from a Disco would be a straight swap for a buggered TD5 in a Defender ???

Will it drop straight in ?? Thanks in advance.......

    What happened to yours?

Yes, a straight swap. The motors are the same. The ECU is different, but I assume you will be using your own from the Defender.
You will have to reprogramme the ECU for the different injector codes. But the motor will still run without this done.
The Disco TD5's have a boost modulator fitted for the turbo which the defenders do not have. This is just a plumbing thing and is irrelevent for your swap, simply remove it and refit the plumbing as the original.

Be aware that if the D2 motor was from a D2a then the motor will have different injectors (green tops ,higher pressure) fitted to it and a different fuel regulator. You will have some slight mods to do for the fuel reg plumbing and might benefit from a different map if you are using a later model motor.

    cheers

A friend has blew his motor on a trip and has been quoted $9k + for repairs

Looking at what options might be available and looking for a good motor to get the costs down

someone asked about finding one recently

there are these from UK, 10 for 17,000 GBP

    10 x TD5 engines

look at his other item too, A single TD5 for 2000GBP, = $3200AU plus shipping still a lot cheaper than $9000

no, not quite a straight swap BUT so long as you have all the parts from both vehicles you can just change over the required bits Providing they are the same MY of engine (the key issues being pre MY03 or Post MY03.

Rule of thumb is if you go from engine bay to engine bay then you're going to be OK.

If you go from pallet to engine bay you can hit some minor snags that will see you not running BUT they dont require any fabrication work, just parts sourcing.

Engine block, head and sump are same. Air intake, turbo (mounting position) and exhaust downpipe is different.

Ecu is different to (more accurately software version.

Swap out is possible but you'll need bits from both cars to make 1 runner.
