			Split in 110 TD5 Fuel Line
		
 
			
				
					Hi All,
 
 Had a mate driving behind me and he pointed out that the defender was leaking fluid onto parts of the chassis/suspension, so we pulled over and had a look. Upon inspection there was indeed a split fuel line; looks as though it had bulged in one place and pinched in another (somehow). The bulge didn't seem to have split the pipe; however, the pinch did. I have seen a few fuel line repairs on the internet but nothing defender TD5 specific. How can such a split as this have happened considering the fuel lines are well on top of the chassis rail? Could it be rubbing similar to that which plagues the discovery td5?
 
 Is the best bet for me to just insert a new piece of pipe where it has split or to replace the entire lenght? Anything specific i should know?
 
 Car is 2000 model year, 122000kms on it. Had sat for some time before coming into my hands.
 
 Any help would be much appreciated; currently the car is on hiatus until this is fixed due to all the fuel loss! Thanks.

					You'll need to work out if it's a low pressure or a high pressure line.
 
 If low, than a repair should be fine.
 If high, I'd replace the line.
 
 As to what's caused it - you mention it's been pinched so I would say it's been kinked when fitted somehow.

					When I first replaced my fuel pump (01 td5 130), the plastic clip that connects to the pump shattered. It was the main fuel line to the engine.
 
 Replacement line (full length) was in the high $200 mark.
 I bought a new short length line and cut it just above the fuel filter. Using a small metal tube and by sliding it inside the fuel line, then using mini hose clamps to secure proved the cheapest option
 
 About 45K km ago - so far so good

					Just for the record: Fixed this by cutting the old line (had to seperate it from the other half of the fuel line) and fitting a slightly large pipe over it (8mm) and clamping it down really tight with some hose clamps.
