Puma Safari Snorkel - SS580HF or SS581HF

H Guys,

I on the hunt for a Safari snorkel for my td4 2.4L and have been ringing around. I have been told that the SS581HF has been scrapped because of the sealing issues where the external pipes meets the internal pipe and that the older td5 SS580HF should be used instead.

What does everyone think? Personal I like the SS580HF as the snorkel tapers to a std pipe opening to fix the internal piping too. Much more reliable than making sure you seal the external/internal join around the quarter panel.

Without looking under the bonnet...YET, My worry is the old SS580HF won't fit as it will clash with something.

Thoughts? Cheers

The older version does fit the Puma's however having seen how badly my safari (older version on a TD4) seals I would suggest checking out the mantec. The safari ram head also doesnt work anywhere near as well as they claim. They have taken to calling them "raised air intakes" nowadays.

I have just bought a sy-klone to replace the ram head and will be taking the snorkel off tomorrow and getting a boss welded onto it to try and waterproof the system.

Thanks mate, yeah it has been a bit of a hot topic of late hasn't it, I've been looking at the sy-klone's too after reading (I think it was your build), can believe they haven't thought of a better way!

Hey chook ...just make sure that they get an airtight weld. I know jason had a problem with a plastic weld on his filler that leaked. Let em know if you have trouble as I have nearly finished my prototype machined option which I will test fit this weekend.

Thanks Nugget, I pulled it apart today and surprisingly it was pretty dry but ARB didn't seal anything (no surprise)......

I actually had the same thought, I am concerned with the stress that the hose turning the corner will put on the plastic weld and because of the location there is no way of knowing if it was cracked.

Back to thinking I will wait for your handiwork.......
