Well the basic problem is that the winch motor is stuffed. Auto electrician says the armature needs a rewind and I dont know anyone who would do that.
The winch is a Warn 5867 (aka Bellview 8274), and a couple of local suppliers say they can't get them anymore. I have added a pcture taken before I cleaned up and repainted the bullbar but its the best I have of the Warn in position.
I have hada look at eBay and sent a note to a winch motor supplier in the US to see if he has a motor.
I guess this is a plea to anyone who might have one lying around or a suggestion where I might pick one up.
I am prepared to put a new winch in ...except...that the bullbar has been modified for the old Warn and a heap of cutting and welding would need to be done to put a new one in. Also the old Warns have a very good reputation and look "authentic" for the 37 year old County.
You can get brand spanking new aftermarket motors for the 8274, mine's now packing a 6HP motor. I did have to change the pinion from the original with a keyed shaft to the new version with a splined shaft, which was another $50.
So thanks to a visit from Isusutoo-eh it turns out I have a an earlier model than the 8274. I have a 5687. I contacted the 4WD Center of Minneosota who Warn sold the rights to for old winches and they say they can supply a motor. I am currently waiting for it to "come in".
For the record the Warn 5687 is based on the Bellview 6000/8000.
