warranty -body corrosion

Hi all, when I was fitting my roof top tent the other day I noticed some blisters around the alpine window on my 2009 defender, I thought oh well I need to take it in for them to have a look and was probably more annoyed I would have to remove the tent and roof rack to get the work done.

But I did the usual search on all things corrosion and defenders and ended up checking the front windscreen frame and hey low and behold there it was some blisters on the bottom corners of the frame.

I normally get all servicing and warranty work done at Austral in Brisbane as that's where I bought it and the wife drops it off on the way to work, but as I live on the coast I took it down to Bruce Lynton who normally do my 'emergency' warrant work.

They were good and got the paint shop guy over quick fast to have a look and they took some photos.

The thing is, they asked for a copy of my servicing receipts which I provided, but also asked for copies of the corrosion/ body inspection reports done each service.

I have never received or heard of this report, BL are getting them direct from Austral once Austral pull them out of Archives and then will send all this over to LR to get approval to get the work done.

Has anyone else received these reports from the dealer? And where else should I be looking for rust.

I am now a fair bit concerned that the inspections have never been done, the blisters I found would probably have been there in May when the car was last serviced so how it was missed if the inspection was done I don't know. Also if LR expect me to act on these reports somehow that I have never received then who is liable for any delay in fixing the rust/corrosion.

I am a bit confused by it all, I figured corrosion under the paintwork on the body + under warranty = fixed by LR. but seemingly it is up for debate..

Will wait and see when they get back to me.

On a side not to warranty issues, the clutch springs are starting to rattle again, it was a fight to get the first clutch changed over at 60k getting this one done at 90k is going to be impossible i think.

Is there a heavy duty clutch we can buy from a super engineering place to replace the crap in there?

The reports are usually kept with the service records held by the dealer who did the work (attached to the job card).

BTW, if you don't have the car serviced by LR dealerships, it's up to the owner to have the annual corrosion inspections carried out.
If you have it serviced at LR dealerships, then the onus is on them to have the inspections done.

Thanks, it has always been done by the LR dealership so I can relax a little, they should have done it then and if not then its between them and LRA to deal with.

I don't get my servicing done by Land Rover.. but my mechanic writes and keeps a record of the report that he makes up after each service.. I just checked and corrosion inspection is listed (not as a fault lol)..

Bruce Lynton have been good to me in regards to warranty work so I don't think you'll have a problem..

I had my windscreen frame (bottom corners) repaired about 12 months ago, same deal photos sent to LR, wait for approval, work undertaken....blah blah blah.

Actually still got the over spray on the drivers side front door card.

Hi everyone not sure whether to post here as not its actually body corrosion but I have issues with the paint job and the Defender will be out of warranty soon. I gave the defender a good wash today and have noticed lots of little spots on any surface that's not vertical, a mate looked at it and thought it looked like the extractor fan wasn't on when it was painted (but I never noticed them before) but what concerns me is some of the larger spots(and I am only talking pin head and smaller) actually look like rust spots, even on the aluminum panels. Has anyone else had paint quality issues.

Rust spots on the paint is usually due to some sort of fallout.

Angle grinding near a car has a similar affect but yours sounds like it's from the atmosphere if it's only on the non-vertical panels.

Drop by your local dealer & have them check it out.

Or take some close up photos & send them an email - they might be able to work off those if they've seen similar faults.

They'll probably ask if you've had a rack or similar fitted.

Is the windscreen frame on the puma steel not alloy??
