    130 Single Cab insurance

    What a shambles.

Today I managed to insure my 1994 build 130" Single cab. Talk about hard work.
My previous insurer AAMI didnt have it in their list of possible LR variants so declined to insure.

Turns out the vehicle list insurance companys use come from 'Glass's' which does not list a 130 Single cab/chassis variant. It has a 110 Single cab/chassis or a 130 Crew cab/chassis but alas no 130 Single cab chassis................sigh.

RACV on line has a different 'vehicle choice' list to the others. Amongst the various choices I could choose a 1994 Land Rover Defender Truck 2.5 or a 1994 Land Rover Defender Truck 2.5. Yes, both the same but one was $488.97 and the other $494.11 with exactly the same input details, including my GOLD rating..............double sigh.

Rang Shannons, no problem. Yes they had the same Glass's guide but were happy to annotate the 110 single cab/chassis selection with the fact that it is actually a 130 and noted the HD rear hub/axles. With a multi policy discount (OKA insured with them) came out $120 cheaper than RACV.

So all's well that ends well.

I know 130 single cabs are a bit uncommon but I wouldn't have thought so rare that they didn't exist for the insurance industry. Anyone else with a 130 single cab had similiar problems ?

what type of policy is it? full comprehensive or 3rd party property/theft
does it cover off road ie: anywhere or just gazetted roads?

All very good questions. Full comprehensive insurance and is covered for on road and off road on what Shannons call 'traversed route'. What this means is that I'm covered if there's a track but not if I'm bush bashing, comp driving or being silly, which suits the sort of driving I do anyway.

I found Shannons the only ones worth dealing with when it came time to register Smeg, they at least had 1/2 a clue on what I was talking about as
the others tried to tell me there is no such thing as an 88'' landrover series 3, only a wagon and they came in cheaper anyway, the same for when I registered the Tardis, they said there could not possibly be a 2012 Defender in the country yet (Feb 2012 compliance)but Shannons were great again, cheaper on comprehensive insurance and cover me wherever I go unless it's competition 4wding.
