Chattery TD5 Defender in high range
So I'm driving back to Sydney from Wagga last weekend and there's this noise right...
It's a chattering type of noise that amplifies if I apply any kind of pressure to the low-high range transfer lever.
It goes away if I throw it into Transfer-Neutral. It seems to have nothing to do with engine, clutch or gearbox positions.
The car is an 05 TD5, with 172,000kms.
I've changed the transfer gear oil: only very slight iron filings on the drain plug, the oil was a dirty brown colour and no metal chunks fell out!
What's the go? Can I drive it still?
Here's hoping someone with more clue than me can help!

Say What !!
I was driving back from Philip Island today , noticed a funny noise.
Same thing if I press on the hi lo lever the noise amplifies.
04 Td5 Defender 155,000 klm
Im just ignoring it as there is no backlash & Its still a lot less noisy than any other Landy Ive had, just don't hold the stick whilst your driving.
Im driving it to Sydney on Thursday so if you see a trail of oil & gearbox bits on the hume you know where they came from
