			Original foam vs Sikaflex???

My question is that i have a perished foam seal where the window meets the bulkhead, giving my right foot Chinese water torture... i am torn between the original foam replacement or replacing with a good squirt of automotive Sikaflex??? Any thoughts or comments from someone who has fixed this leak???

 Cheers Marley

I suppose you'd have to search far and wide to find an old defender without some type of aftermarket sealant squirted in somewhere..........

			How I got dry socks

3M make a product called 5200 it comes in a normal tube and fits in a caulking gun. It also comes in white.
This stuff is expensive at around 25 fun tokens a tube but it expands slightly when the air hits it and stays flexible. May take a couple of days to dry.

 Boating shops have it usually.

 Good luck

Well, the original foam has already proven countless times its not waterproof so I wouldn't even consider using it again. Personally, I'd get rid of it all (which I plan to do asap) and replace with Sikaflex or other appropriate sealant. I sealed up my roof joins and gutters with Sikaflex 221 sealant and that remains flexible, is tough and despite what is stated on the tube it will clean up with turps. You've also got the same foam sealant between the rear tub and the rear side wall panels under the siding windows. That also leaks. I just covered the bulkhead foam with sealant and it certainly slowed the water but it also comes in those leaky vents, hinges and through the door where the seal is bent below the top hinge - see page 11 of the water ingress manual.
yeah good luck, most of us give up and just wear gum boots
