Roof rack mounting hi lift jack and shovel

Want to clear out the area under my seats and considering having a
jack / shovel mount on my roof racks. Probably a "how long is peice of string" question but is this a good idea or are they just going to get knocked off? I'm in metro Brisbane

Up to you really, you could fit high up, or across the rear x member, or even across the bonnet.

I personally think they are too heavy to put on the roof. That's another 14kg up there. If you have a steel roof rack, your already pushing a safe load limit. I would never leave it there if it isn't locked up either. I have the Kaymar jack and shovel holder that bolts onto the side of an ARB roof rack. I only put the shovel up there on big trips and carry a heavy duty bottle jack in the back. Weight is a big killer, especially up high.

Leave this to the Patrol owners, what Sue mentioned is great for the Hi-Lift. The shovel probably OK up there but not hanging off the side as a show piece while you drive to the shops.

Had the same thoughts about a high lift being to heavy for the roof. I bought a Simbar bike rack in conjunction with a Mantec spare wheel carrier, the bike rack consists of a 2inch box section receiver that pokes through the centre of the spare wheel, I just made a high lift jack mount out of some 50mm box and flat plate, very easy to fit it, takes 20 seconds at most.
