Thread: Roof rack hi lift jack mount safe?

I had a KAYMAR unit holding mine up top for years bolted up to my Tracklander rack.
Once it is bolted to the rack, andd the jack is "located and screwed in" I padlock it and never had the slightest movement.
I would suggest either a strip of gaffa tape or one of those hilift rubber thingies to stop the vibration rattle you sometimes get.

After going away a few times, i realized that i needed to re-access my up top weight distribution and took it off and relocated it to my rear carrier.

Just fitted it and think I worked it out. There's a bolt to hold the jack at the heavy end and another retaining bolt to hold the shovel. Seems pretty solid and I ocky strapped the rear end of the jack to the roof rack bracket to stop any wobbles. Seems pretty good actually. Worst thing about it are the zinc bolts came with it. Will replace them with stainless for sure. It's just one I got off ebay but the brackets are 3mm plate and seem ok. Probably be rusty by the end of the year :-(

Sounds like you are sorted. Can I suggest you remove the base of the hight lift jack and store it inside the Fender It is held in place with a split pin . Better safe than sorry.

I had one of those hi lift jack holders on my roof rack and just could not trust it. I found the bolt had loosened a bit on two occassions. I ended up using an occy srap just to make sure it was ok. The lower lifting point also came close to hitting my roof and the top glass windows.

I ended up ditching it and bought a hi lift jack mount from ARB that is fitted to the top of my bullbar.
The jack is easily accessible now as it is held down tight by two securing knobs. Never comes loose. Only thing is the jack can be pinched easily.

I take it off when not needed.
