    New Tyres and Wheels

No, not another "What should I buy?" thread. Already read about a dozen of those.

My car came fitted with Range Rover alloys and IMO they realy didn't do the car any favours. To top it off, tyres were 265/70 Insa Turbo Sahara's, an inch or so below standard height yet wide enough to rub badly beyond about 2/3 lock.

I replaced the rims with a set of Terrafirma TF101's. These are offset about 13mm further out than the standard wheel which when combined with some 255/85R BFG KM2's, puts the inside of the wheel within a few mm of where 235/85's on standard offset rims would be.

    Enough chat, onto the pics:

    AFTER:

Well, the good news is I can now use full lockwithout rubbing, ride and handling have improved dramatically and ground clearance is improved as well. I haven't had a chance to try them out on dirt yet due to other problems that need adressing.

Downsides? Only one. They cost nearly as much as the entire car!

Thanks for all the people who recommended both 255/85 as a perfect size for the car and BFG M/T KM2's. Too many threads and too many people to post a direct thanks to!

Thanks guys. I'm extremely happy with the result. The improvement in colour co-ordination and stance makes a big difference. But even better is how much better the car drives. The difference between $160 tyres and $360 tyres?

When my wife first saw the wheels she wasn't that impressed as she had it in her mind they were going to be a nice shiny set of alloys. But once they were fitted to the car she agreed the white was the best choice for this particular vehicle.

white glorious white well done. If you went black or gun metal the whole look would have changed again.

Did you consider ZU's. I'd imagine the ZU's and the Terrafirmas' are similar in price. If so what swayed your call in the end.

Compared to ZUs these wheels just look stronger...

I think they suit better.. And for touring would have the benefit of not allowing objects as easily through the spokes (had it happen)

Rims are quoted at 13.3kg. They feel VERY solid and are rated at 1300kg.
