I've seen Range Rover Classic rear seats in a Defender. I don't know how they're fitted. I bought a set to try to do the same.
I initially tried swapping the locking mechanism on the side of the seat around - If I could get the RRC seats to lock into the Defenders clamp, then I'd just have to fabricate suitably spaced legs/hinges.
As it turns out the RRC seats are about 30mm too wide.
The next step (waiting for some good weather & time off) is to see if the RRC seats will fit across with the side locking mechanism removed from the car.
If so, I would probably incorporate a locking mechanism (so the back doesn't fold forward) onto the frame of the RRC seats. Then brackets for the front, so they can still fold down & forward. Then devise a locking system for the back. The simplest would be an engineered spread plate under the panel with a captive nut, then use a bolt, but with a wingnut type tag on it that would make it easier to release.
The RRC seats will give better support to back seat passengers, and allow me to slightly drop the height, so they can see out the side window better. My cargo barrier is a little further back than most, so I may be able to extend the leg room for rear seat passengers as well.
Hi there,
Just in case you can use them...
I have two forward facing fold up rear seats from my 2012 Defender 90 surplus to requirements as 'Shorty' is now equipped with rear storage drawer.
I am also in Townsville so give me a call on 0402485642 if you think they will be an option.
Cheers
Mike
If you only need 4, you can just get someone to weld up a frame and mount a pair of front seats in the back. It'll then also give you just enough space for a fridge in the middle.
I have a double seat that was custom made before I got the car. They sit between the wheel arches, to give better leg room to those more needy passengers in the rear. They have a head rest and fold forward in the same mannor as the original seats.
Pm me if you are interested in them as I don't want a back seat.
When I swapped the V8 for the RRC VM Diesel I also changed the rather uncomfortable County rear Bench for the RR rear 2 + 1 VERY comfy seats, as someone has mentioned I had to remove the 'automatic' seat back lock (as the whole kaboodle was slightly too wide) but I could use the original County "wing-nut" locks, which allow me to roll the seats forward to carry cargo. A bit of fiddling for the front mounts but all went in very well.
