Connecting a yellow top optima as a main battery on a puma

I'm pretty sure someone on here has done that but I cant find the thread...

has anyone else done it. Ian bought a new battery tonight for the puma only to find that the large huse housing on the positive connector simply wont allow the clamp to reach the terminal on the optima.

if you have done it can you tell us what you have done to remedy this please

    Hi Dullbird

I got rid of the large fuse thingy and put in inline fuses.

Alkready had a Bluetop D31M so added a bluetop D27M. Both fit in the box and the metal lid goes back on top.

If I didn't have the D31M already I would have got 2 of the smaller D27Ms instead as they both start the car first time anytime and have enough storage to run my Engel and charge devices overnight.

The bluetops are marine versions of the yellow tops and have 2 extra lugs on top for connections.

I have had them for three and half years and have been very happy with their performance. Have accidentally completely flattened them a couple of times but they have fully recovered.

My system has a large marine switch which manually connects all electrics to one battery and completely disconnects the other battery, so when you arrive somewhere you switch to the other battery and you have a fully charged one sitting there idle and completely disconnected as a backup.

    Cheers

Hi mate thanks for the info

We have used yellow tops for years and have twin yellows in our other cars however our other cars dont have the fuse setup on the positive line so was a bit stumped when we went to fit it and it would fit
