Towing a 2.5 ton van with a Puma

Out of interest has anyone done much towing with a van over or around 2.5 ton with their Puma?

And if so how is it?

I know they have a restricted ball weight of no more then 250 kg but that's not the question rather how good are they at towing a decent sized van.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Terry

I have a 2008 Tdci(PUMA) and a 5.1m Coromal Off Road pop-top. Dry weight is about 1750kg, loaded for a trip with water food etc I would estimate 2200kg.

It tows quite well, will maintain 100k's at about 13.5L/100k's. On hills you find you need to go back to 5 th so as not strain the running gear.

You do need to watch the road/speed/revs to keep up road speed and not strain the vehicle.

I would not tow any thing heavier for any substantial distance, I think this size van is at at it's comfortable limit.

    Cheers

From my experience anything less than 3l starts to lag with anything over 2.5 tonne. The vehicles will do it but not happily.

I tow a full size caravan with a weight of around 2.6 tonnes, I havn't had any trouble so far, this included around Tassie for four months. Have been towing with it since buying the truck 2 1/2 years ago. The tow ball weight limitt on mine is 350 kgs, which is a genuine land rover tow bar. we will be heading off again soon with it, on a main highway I can sit on 100kph no problems, although I try and stay around 85 to 90 kph. I keep the engine revs around 2000 rpm which keeps me in 5 or 6 gear. This is the way I drive mine, but it might not suit everyone. If you need any more info p.m. me.
