    Indeed...

I live in a rural area where there are plenty of farmers tootling around in their Defenders. Nodding or waving to them is a total waste of time, even if you are in a Camel 110.

Frankly, i get a far more enthusiastic response if I'm driving in the London area... Which is the complete opposite to riding the motorbike.

I cannot speak about waving in the old country but I can say no one waves to me in Aust.

When I was driving my old Freelander and waved to someone they must have thought I was gay or something as they turned the other way.

When driving the RRS other landie drivers seem surprised that a Sport owner would be waving and we have passed each other before a return wave (if there was one) could be observed.

When I drive my 101 I do not get waves back from Landie drivers as most do not know what a 101 is, yet I get lots of waves and yahoos from Toyota drivers as they love 101s but still do not know what it is, but still wave.

Most modern landies are driven by soccer mums who have no idea what they are driving other than it is a car - in my view landies are wasted on soccer mums.

I think the UK it's not just driving a Land Rover but what model, wave at a Disco or Freelander owner and you might as well wave at every mum on the school run, if it's a Defender don't bother if its either a farmer or commercial, other than that you usually get a wave back

What he said. You need to update your location now

I would get funny looks from the locals in rural Wales for NOT having a sheep trailer or even a towbar on my 110, but then again I get funny looks everywhere

    Question

thanks guys for the responses. Do you guys think the wave should be model specific? When I first got the defender I waved at all landies but only got responses from defenders and series landies so I stopped waving at the others. Cheers Jamie

The only exception would be the average farmer. You just get the blank stare or the disgruntled head shake!

Easy to spot them though, blue or green 90 with a Ifor Williams tinny contraption on the back and the sheepdog peering round the corder!

Being a Kiwi, I am of course a great fan of Shaun the sheep and his mates, Wallace and Gromit! Love the Landy shots!

    discovery drivers don't wave

Only series landies and defenders do the wave it seems, and its alive and well everywhere I go.

But I do remember reading an article in Land Rover Owners International magazine maybe 8 years ago entitled "Discovery drivers don't wave". the author was lamenting the fact that Disco drivers don't share the knowledge, maybe the joy or is it the sheer frustration with owning a "real" land rover.

in any event, I wouldn't bother saluting the school run crowd
