I got the impression that roofracks may have varied because the dealers seemed to assemble them.
Mine is different to the one shown in the pictures (but the previous owner did have it modified to carry a tinny).

If you want any photos send me a PM with your email address and I'll take some at the weekend & send.

There's a couple of pictures of my Tanami in the report here Wonnangatta

The roofrack is almost identical to the one fitted to the other Defender in the report. I'll see if it came with the vehicle or was purchased after he got it.

In the advertising pictures the rack doesn't have a mesh floor. Mine has a ladder (which obscures the rego plate ....oops) and the sides were cutout for boat rollers.
It looks very, very similar to the one in post 22 of this thread.

I have been doing some research into tanami defenders which seems to me that there is not much to be found. I have the experience magazine that I thought I would share. Maybe a tanami register could set up on aulro.

One for sale in 'Markets' at the moment.

Somewhere I have an email I received from the 'Defender Specialist' at Land Rover Australia about 12 years ago when I got mine and started researching. I'll see if I can dig it out.

I was happy to see that one turn up in the markets especially seeing the price and mileage I wish it was there a week earlier when I was trying to insure mine.

    slightly off topic

There is a guy in Cleveland, east brisbane with a genuine Malcolm Douglas Defender County, it was his original doco vehicle and had lockers front and rear and a winch.
The guy was thinking of selling it in November last year.

    This one?

btw - no such thing as a "defender county" in Australia. County is a trim spec, and county models were only sold in AU before the "One Ten" (110) was called a "defender".

The vehicle in the pic looks like a 4BD1 (isuzu) powered One Ten county.

Just dug out the details I got from Rover Australia when I was researching the Tanami back in 1999.
The Defender product specialist sent the following by email :-

"The Defender "Tanami" was a standard edition station wagon configuration with the exception it was identified by the "Tanami" decals and had the following accessories fitted.
    - Roof Rack & ladder
    - Bull Bar
    - Bonnet deditching tools

The only literature produced at the time were sales brochures which have since long gone. The actual number produced I don't know exactly but it would be in the vicinity of 100 to 150 vehicles "

He didn't mention the other accessories listed in the editorials & LR Experience magazine plus the editorial picture doesn't show a ladder on the roofrack.

The roof rack in lro11's post (Land Rover brochure) appears to be the ones fitted as OEM in the UK during the 300Tdi years.

I unfortunately threw one out in 2006 when I bought my last UK 300Tdi as they didn't fair well in the UK weather. They appeared to let in and then trap water, which caused quite a bit of internal rust.

Collectors and enthusiasts could possibly look at old stock from the UK for replacements.

    Cheers,

    Lou
