New Defender ICONS...oh so bling....

There is nothing stupid about a 6bt cummins, perhaps a little overkill for our application. It's little brother the 4bt(3.9lt) would be a perfect swap in a defender, problem is they are a little thin on the ground here in Australia. I only mentioned the 6bt because I have one sitting in the shed for my 61 f100 unibody project. Also 6bt have been successfully fitted to a number of defenders, one of which was a 90!!!

How much does a 6bt weigh?

1100lbs, I think that converts to anout 500 kg. To give you an idea I believe a 351 Cleveland ( the other motor I have for my f100) is about 350kg

IIRC the 4BT and 4BD1T are around the 400-425kg mark, and a Tdi roughly 250-270kg ??

Dougal has posted up weights of the 4BD1T and 4BT somewhere, hell I think I may have posted weights comparing the Tdi to the 4BD1.

The old f truck has already had a substantial brake upgrade uninformed. I got the 6bt real cheap with an adapter to ford bell housing, flywheel and engine mounts to suit Cleveland base plates. I have not 100% made my mind up yet as to what engine to run. Leaning towards the cummins for fuel economy, geared right they should easily get 10l/ 100km.

The 4bt is a great engine, but IMO its weight is an issue for LR...like I said IMO.

a 6bt, no bloody way! yes it can be done, yes it has been done, just like GMC V8 diesels etc, doesnt make it a great idea

so a chipped td5 then?


theres a significant number of tdis and a couple of td5's that are pushing those Ks so the engines sound.

Chipping will only slightly mask the smaller cubes. New engines are better, but I bet anyone would prefer to drive the new 3.2 over the 2.2
