fender = wing tops right?

I like the look of the propeller plate! I would put check plate on to cover areas of the car that start to show some wear.. Do you have any knocks in the rear corner or side rails? If not maybe wait until they start getting abused, then cover them up. Once the plate is riveted on its pretty much on for good so if your SVX has nice panels that you don't need to kick and stand on, keep em on show.

Yep top plates (now I know what they are called)

The panels are nice and straight, but I do like the look of the plates and that’s all this exercise is about “bling”!

I’m in the middle of fabbing up a rear wrap around bar and some rock sliders so the rear corners and side rails will be well protected from rocks and trees.

I’m looking for some opinion regarding the fact that it’s an SVX, do you think the

fender guards will take away from the clean look of the SVX.

I noticed that on the OEM Land Rover ones they have a backing, do you think this will trap moisture and promote corrosion.

Mate I dont mean to be blunt but the clean look of the svx is a puma with stickers no different.....do you think that any other puma looks bad with wing top chequer plate? if so dont put them on..if you like them and you are likely to be climbing on the wings from time to time I would put them on.

if you are unsure I would just look through the show us your defender thread im sure there would be plenty of pumas in there with wingtops on maybe even a black one to give you some idea

a polished svx would look more bling without satin plates imo. Plate makes it look a bit more rugged i suppose... but if it were my svx I wouldnt plate it.

Dullbird has nailed it, SVX's have a few extras but thats about it. But you do have those seats.

I put checker plate on mine soon after buying it and do not regret it.

But, and it is good sized but......use heavy plate. I think that 4.5 mm is the go.

I used Dolium, black powder coated, looks good but to thin. The whole idea is to allow you to walk on the guards to access the roof, without causing damage to wing tops.

Also, fixing plate the triangle sections behind the rear door will require removal of the factory rivets (so I gave it a miss) or it will not sit flat.

I know there isn’t too much different in a SVX, but It does look pretty cool they way it is, I guess it would appeal to some as it is a more limited run model. hence it may be sort after by certain people that may not appreciate the dimond plate look . I must admit I bought it for mostly the seats.

As for the diamond plate I am using 3mm as this is the maximum thickness that it is available, in saying that this is the base size not including the pressing depth .

Does anyone know what is the material used between the Ally and the panel , I suspect that is would be something that doesn’t absorb moisture.

The Dolium product looks to be a 2mm base thickness which may be a bit thin to stand on . I had a look at the Landrover ones and they are 2.5mm base , so I think 3mm will be ok .

I reckon the black SVX with the raw ali wingtop protectors would look smick; forget getting them anodised black, get em clear anodised. You want some contrast. give it a bit of bling. 3mm thick will be fine and if you can't get anything as an underliner (I haven't been able to find anything), I've been told to use silicon or similar to provide the padding. I wouldn't worry too much about corrosion.

It was recommend that I use SIKAFLEX to fit mine. Just about bonded the plate to the guards without using rivets. It's supposed to stop the plate vibrating against the wings and bodywork apparently.
