Don't be thrown by end float they do have a reasonable amount.
However it shouldn't touch in either direction.

If you have the turbo off you can see both sides of the compressor and turbine wheels and blades. First check the blades to see if they have been touching the outer housings, check for oil leaks and end play move the shaft both directions in and outward axially and see if it touches the housings when pushed each way. Typically the shaft floats in and out and up and down but the blades should not touch the housing at the extremes do all movements by hand do not exert excessive pressure. A damaged compressor or turbine wheel will be evident of excessively worn bearings as will oil leaking out of either side. IE if you see oil leaking on the inlet side or heavy carbon/oil mixture on the exhaust sides. Providing the impeller and turbine are not damaged you can purchase a full rebuild kit to suit from turbine re-builders and repair it yourself if you have an inch pound tension wrench and some mechanical ability. I have rebuilt many over the years and never had a failure there are manuals to assist Air Research is a company that put out a good service manual which explains failures and repairs required. Hope this helps. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/images/header_05.jpg Jackual's 200TDi turbo rebuild guide shows how a 200TDI turbo can be rebuilt.

    Sorry had to change computers.

When i got there, I started the engine and went to rev it lots of blue/white smoke. Left the vehicle went to get a tow. When i returned started the engine and drove it seemed better went into boost a little bit of blue smoke but not heaps, had power. Didnt risk it, towed it home.

My thoughts are the turbo siezed, then cooled down and freeded up.

I then put it in the shed and pulled the turbo.

Check the oil level is it waaay over full.
If so you could have a diesel to sump situation don't start it if this is the case
This can happen due to injector washer leaks or cracked head

Well im going to get the turbo checked by a specialist but if it is R/S i want to replace it with a VGT one.

Is there any one on here that has the BAS one?? I have one of their boost box and this is the second one. It worked for a few months but has now died again.

Just wondering if their turbos are better???

Thanks to all that have replied. I appreciate it.

    Cheers Jim
