too high, too low and a little tear in my eye - cubby chop

Second short trip to the local shop after fitting the exbox and smashed my 'funny bone' into the corner of the cubby box coming out of a roundabout... If my small boy wasn't in the car I might have cried a little, but instead he learned a few new words.

Chopping the centre console down was actually a simple job even for me

Attached some pics (cause it didn't happen if there are no pics right )

    - Removed the lid, took out the inner lining and cut the vinyl around the top
(Stretchy stuff this vinyl so just pulled it down to cut the wood)
    - I want the height about level with the gear lever so I chopped off 6cm
    - Cut the vinyl and inner lining to size and stapled back in
    - Made a new lid and stuck some foam on top for padding
and some more fluffy cloud stuff...

Didn't bother to try match the vinyl and not being able to match the canvas colour of the M&M seat covers, so I dared to use a little of the kids paint...

Comfortable arm rest height; happy end-result.

    Hahahaha!

Good job though, I imagine that you aren't the only one who has had 'minties moments' with the cubby boxes.. (although I like mine at the height it is)..

Yep my centre console also did my head in, so I replaced it with a lockable steel box which I painted black. I bought 4 collapsable drink holders off fleebay and haven't been happier.
Now I can lock the valuables away and reach across to the other door. I have two drink holders at the front and two for the back seat passengers.

All up it cost me around 30 bucks.

Final touch is to make a cushion for the top.
