With regards to dot ratings, you can put higher in older vehicles, but shouldn't use dot3 in ABS or later vehicles that specify dot4. One exception is I believe 100/200 series cruisers with ABS, apparently dot 3 non synthetic should be used ?or it will cause problems?. (Not that we care on AULRO about what brake fluid to put in those...
) There is also a' super dot3', this IIRC can be used in early D1 and RRC ABS systems OK. I just use Dot4 in everything now.
