    TD5 2005 - Air Con - burned resistor pack

    Hi
    Everyone

    Defender Td5 2005

    Recently positions I and II on the Aircon stopped working. The aircon fan wouldn't work on these two positions, but it still worked on position III (full blast).

    The resistor pack was burned and the mechanic replaced it.

    It worked fine for two weeks, then the same happened again, positions I and II not working.

    Before we go and open the all thing again, is there anyone with some suggestions on what could be going wrong.

    I just pulled my factory AC out MY2005 Td5 Defender to replace with aftermarket A/C .

    Amongst other things it just so happens I have my fan on ebay Landrover Defender A/C Blower motor (Smiths) 2005MY | eBay

    One thing I noticed is the blower fan is quite stiff to spin by hand, specially compared to my new aftermarket evaporator fan.

    and you will find a photo of my old evaporator, all that crud you see stuck in it is sucked up off the floor, same crud goes thru the fan & motor.
    I think the increased load on the motor by gunged up bearings / seals could be whats blowing your resistors.

    if your fan spins free then I cant imagine whats causing it unless the resistor isnt actually screwed inside the fan housing ( where it gets cooled)

    Problem solved

    Three resistor packs ended up burning.

    The problem was corroded wires inside the dash causing bad contact.

    There is a plastic block inside the dash with a number of electric wires going in and out. Two of those where corroded.
    Mechanic showed me the plan for that wiring block and one of the corroded wires was to do with the aircon.

    Well, in the end that did't fix it.
    The fan is also noisy. It was lubricated to see if it run better but ......

    Any suggestions on a good aftermarket ?

    I had a look at the Red Dot website Products | Red Dot Corporation | Mobile HVAC but I would probably avoid having a unit on the roof. Plus they are quite expensive.
