I only buy black Landrovers, 4 so far and the newest is a black 90 and would not consider anything else, my choice of course but afer sitting in the sun all day my wifes silver freelander is stinking hot so much of a muchness I think and as mentioned the air con works in the new defenders

That is hardly a fair comparison.

Compare the area of glass in each of the vehicles and compare the slope of the windscreens. The Freelander has much more in common with a glasshouse (or greenhouse or hothouse) than the Defender.

If your wife's silver Freelander with its big sloping windscreen only gets about as hot as your Defender with its tiny almost vertical windscreen, that is proof that the Freelander benefits a lot from being silver rather than black.

Forgot to mention I have a full length rack and roof tent on mine, that may help cool things a little.

Dont forget also, most cars have windows that you can open

I still maintain you should buy the colour you like. There's no point buying a white car if you want black just because its perceived to give you a few degrees extra cooling. You would always be wishing you'd bought the black.
    Regards,
    Jon

My current D90 is black and it really doesn't get any hotter than any other colour - my previous car was a white Honda Accord and it still got hot. Wouldn't mind a white roof though - think the contrast will look quite good!

My 130 is Orkney grey which is fairly dark, and to be honest i think my white prado used to get hotter in the sun.... Since buying it i also pulled the hood lining out and lined the whole roof with dynamat and replaced the hood lining over top, and i have tinted my windows fairly dark, these made 2 mods made a heap of difference to the car.

    Great feedback guys, Thank you.

A few comments on this thread had me re-looking at black, but I must say I was getting hot looking at them, it kept reminding me of the Hilux on hot days.

So saying that I think I will go the White, besides white is the new black.

The white does have other benefits, I remember an article in NRMA open road some years back surveying colours and white triumphed as the most safest colour for a motor vehicle, and it does supposedly stay cleaner (I kind of beg to differ on that one) white probably just looks cleaner as black just shows everything.

Anyways this thread has served its purpose and as given me great advise to help me with my decision. Thanks again.

    Babs.

I read post 12 many times to try and understand, but alas a hot car is a hot car for my 2 cents

Now I do appreciate that white does not absorb heat the same as black, I cant rest my hand on it in the summer for one but sitting in the sun all day, they just get hot
