Thread: Drain plug

Um, no. Coolant drain. Use a t-piece on the RHS of the engine at the oil pressure switch/ oil cooler valve if you want a temp sensor.

My oil temp sender is in the sump drain plug hole, vdo with an adaptor. been there for about 4 years just unplug the wire when doing an oil change.

Ahhhhh daft logic in the LR parts manual. As in my manual it was on the page with the oil squirters. So had 4 oil squirters and a drain.

Anyway good to know as I was wondering what it was. I will have to pull it out and clean it up.

That's a good idea. I just got a wolf magnetic sump plug so I would have to drill another hole and tap it which is no real drama. Will have to look when that bit rocks up this week

Just while you guys are on the topic of plugs, etc. What do you call the plug you're supposed to put in the "gearbox?" before doing river crossings? and really how important is it?

There is 2 wading plugs that I am aware of in the TDI's. One in the timing case and one in the flwheel housing that connects to the bellhousing (I just bought 2).

I believe the wading kits have breathers that go to 2 diffs, gearbox, transfer case and timing case.

Pretty important to be in when it should be and out when it should be.
