    Advice on leaving my Puma

    Folks

heading overseas leaving my new Puma for a few months. It will be securely garaged in our Darwin house. With my older vehicles I tend to disconnect the battery when I travel. Is that the correct thing to do with the Puma? What would disconnecting the terminals do to the vehcile computer and electronics? Sorry if this is a dumb question - I'm 'old school'

I thought of trickle charging but don't want to lave it so long unattended on charge.

Please some advice on how to best store the Puma

    Thanks in advance

    Alan

I'd disconnect the battery and put the vehicle on jack stands under the axles so that there's no weight on the tyres. Given you're heading into the wet season with high humidity, I'd consider plugging the exhaust pipe and taping over the air intake to reduce the likelihood of moist air settling inside the engine.... may not be necessary but that's what I'd do

(The alarm system over a few months will flatten the battery, which can cause other issues...like rendering the battery U/S... that's why I'd disconnect it). If you have a mate who would trickle charge the battery for a couple of days a month, then remove the battery and ask them to do this for you. Alternatively, make sure it's fully charged up before you leave. If it's in good nick it will lose about 5% of its charge a month in storage.

I regularly leave mine for two to four months at a time with no adverse affects. (so far)
I leave it as is and ready to rock, just in case the wife needs it for whatever reason (she never hasn't yet, dislikes the Fender). This has been the case with mine since new, Oct 2008.
I get it professionally serviced every 12 months and I do all the additional and in-between maintenance myself.
To date 20, 200kms odd on the clock.
I left my MK Patrol sit for 5 ½ months once while I went to work. I thought the thing was going to fall apart when I drove it for the first time. Big mistake.
Some sort of storage maintenance is advisable.

    Everythings Hoges said is good.
If you haven't got access to axle stands inflate the tyres to a higher pressure to help stop the flat spotting.
For the battery, it would be good to fully charge it with a charger prior to leaving it. These calcium batteries can stand on the shelf for a long time without the need for trickle charging.

We have left ours for two months at a time in an open car port with no other preparation and had no worries starting it up. I just let it idle up to temp before driving off.

On the other hand, my old man's Pajero will flatten its battery after a fortnight.
