    Puma 2.4 v 2.2

A sad day in the household since the White 110 departed due to a sad case of extra large drainage holes in the chassis. Someone with more time and skill is going to renovate it so at least it's gone to a good home.

Anyway just to prove how fickle we blokes are, whilst driving away from the new owner's house I passed a Van Sales Yard in Brisbane and spotted a grey 110. Did a U-Turn for a closer look.

No one around to ask but I had a real good look over it. And so to the question? It said 2011 on the Rego sticker, but I don't know if it's a 2.4 or 2.2. The usual signs were confusing. It has Continental tyres on it (sign of a 2.2?) the 2.4 had Grabbers (?), but it had the solid heavy weight rear door handle i.e. no holes in it (sign of a 2.4).

What other features distinguish a 2.4 from a 2.2 from the outside?

Ha! ha! That cracked a smile.

    Hey White 110,

you're right correct about the weight-saving holes in the rear door handle marking a 2.2 Puma wagon. I also believe the diesel filler cap is a bit different between the 2.4 and 2.2 - with the 2.2. having a little plastic tether securing it to the vehicle. I can't remember whether this is externally visible when the cap is in place. I'm overseas away from my Land Rover.

However I'm not sure that the boots a Land Rover is wearing indicate much. I think you can have the choice of several options when you order a vehicle (same choices for 2.4 and 2.2) . My own 2.2 arrived from the factory wearing his muddies.

2.2s and 2.4s aren't visibly very different above the bonnet, but it sounds like that grey 110 wagon you spotted was a 2.4.

    Good luck with it.

    Cheers

    Alan

I dont think it really matters, 2.2 or 2.4 isn't a deal breaker. It sound like you are however pinning for another Defender.
Give them a call and talk price. With Nissan and Toyota doing 0% finance, the industry has to be hurting. Xmas is here and most people have no loot spare to be buying cars, or Jan and Feb for that matter.

When in Asia I used the be cash up, be prepared to walk, and don't care if the deal falls through approach. Amazing what happens over here in OZ with the same attitude.

    good luck

The 2.4 is the engine to go for...

Externally, the only way of telling it to look at the rear door handle. If it is solid then it is a 2.4, if it's 'drilled' then it is a 2.2.

If you're in cabin, look at the bonnet release. If it is on the LHS of the drivers footwell, it is a 2.4, if it is on the RHS, it is a 2.2.

Some MY2012 vehicles will have been registered in 2011 which is what it says on the rego certificate. My MY06 is registered as a Dec 2005. Of course the VIN which should also be on the rego would clarify it.

Emmm....sadly yes - already and it's only been a few days!!

If it helps the Vin was SALLDHMS7BA402570 though from all the responses it looks like a 2.4.

Had another look the other night and it's got 11,500kms on the clock for $45k with 5 seats, side steps, bull bar and tow hook.

Reckon I need to do some homework to see if it's the right sort of price

But then I'd have to change my name from "White 110" to "Grey 110"

Yep, 2011 model 2.4 Puma Diesel. I think I've been driving past that car for a couple of weeks now. Might stop in and have a look tonight.
