    Hazards coming on by themselves

    2008 110 Puma.

A few weeks ago when I had a clogged up air filter, the engine suddenly started running at about 75% capacity. After a few minutes, the hazards came on all by themselves, but without the little trailer icon lighting up (which it normally does when I put the hazards on deliberately).

To reset it, I had to turn the engine off and on again.

This occurred 3 weeks ago while driving through a puddle and bottoming out on a rock and again this weekend out at Newnes on the corrugations. 3 times in 10 minutes.

Is it a deliberate warning or is something awry in the electrics that needs attention?

A distinct possibility is that the inertia sensor (behind the dash) has been activated. It's designed to automatically put thew hazard lights on, in the event of a collision. It could have vibrated loose on its mountings, so a more modest (off road type) bump will set it off. Might just need to tighten the bracket for it up.
