    Replacement Steering Wheel

I'm looking to replace the original steering wheel in my TD5 for something a little smaller and less worn out.

I was looking at the 15" Moto Lita steering wheels from Mudstuff but was wondering if anyone knows of any suppliers (for Moto Lita or any other decent make and model) closer to home?

I wanted to replace the wheel over the Christmas hols but have left it too late to get anything from the UK. Also, I do prefer to shop 'local' when I can.

    Thanks in advance!

The best deal I got for my Mota-Lita wheel was direct from Mota-Lita. They are very good to deal with and the quality and workmanship is excellent. I have the Mk4.

    Steering Wheel

Hi, last year I changed my steering wheel on Ruby my TD5. The landrover wheel had become loose at the top and would turn in my hand. It annoyed the crap out of me.

The new wheel came from the Uk. It is 350mm diameter. Never having a sports wheel before I wasnt sure how I would go, but I took to it like a duck to water. Its not too small and is quite comfortable. I fitted a hub from the centre of a mag wheel and sprayed it matt black, looks like a bought one.

Sorry I cant help you with a local supplier, but good luck.

    Regards jimr1

You could try Land Rover tuning as they list quite a few options but I don't know if they hold stock here or not:

Landrover Tuning :: Interior Defender - Defender

One thing to be careful about is that all these wheels seem to fit to an extremely thick (about 10cm) boss which moves the steering wheel that much closer to you. I ordered a very nice 380mm Leather rim but when I fitted it I found the wheel was too close to my chest so I went back to my original wheel. I'm hoping once I replace my seats, sliders and fit seat rail extensions I should be able to put it back on.

I too was looking at replacing the steering wheel, I hate how the top of the Puma wheel sits of the dash, if you turn the wheel so the bottom sits at the top it's perfect.

My question is what size steering wheel to get, the OEM is offset hence why the bottom of the wheel sits perfect when spun to the top. All the aftermarket wheels seem to be centred, so what size would give the same fit as the bottom of the OEM?

I did not want to get something to small, I'll leave that to the boy racers. But I want it to sit just inline with the top of the dash.

Has anyone have one in 350mm or 360mm that can help out?

To answer the original threads question. I don't think there is anywhere local to buy them, I did see some crappy ones in Supercheap Autos not worth a look. Could try Repco they might stock a better quality if they stock them at all.

make sure to buy the correct boss for your year of defender as they changed alot, i purchased a boss kit for a motolita? wheel from pdt010 as the price was very good and then turned it down in the lathe[alloy=very easy] to fit a momo wheel, my first was 350mm but was to skinny and replaced with a fatter grip 320mm wheel about 18 months ago, personally i love the smaller wheel as it gets your knuckles away from the door, we all have power steering so there is no wrestling with the smaller wheel.
did the same for a mates county[but different amount of splines on the boss]

SAAS made the boss hub kit for me in 2001. We had to modify its design for the TD5 versions.

It allowed me to fit a nice Momo. But any other brand will fit fine.
