These things have been discussed here and on other forums many many times over,so you won't be inventing the wheel.You just need to stop thinking Japanese or Disco and start with a blank canvas.

+1... Don't just assume.

Just coz others do it, doesn't make it a good idea. Frankly, most people that nail lift kits & winches to their cars would probably benefit more from actually learning to drive properly first.

Personally, I think you'd be better off just getting out there with a stock car, play around and understand it first. Then look at mods...

Yeah im no "expert" like some but iv been wheeling for about 20 years so i understand enough.. Problem is the defender is complete different story to a pootrol which iv always had, and as its been said, i need to start from scratch and not follow the same rules. Im on the right path now thanks to some comments and lots of info on this forum so should be sweet!
