			Masking doors for painting

Any tips for masking Defender doors for painting? The doors are off the car for painting. I'm leaving the glass in, and up. Is there something you can push in between the frame and spongy bits each side of the glass? Should I take the rubber bit on the outside off? I'm trying to keep it simple. I will post some pictures when I'm done. Sad thing is , I studied photography for three years at Uni back in the days of film, but have no idea how to post photos now !!!! !!!!

 Cheers,

 Jono

Taking the glass out can be a pain if you have not done it before - so I understand wanting to dodge that. However it does not take long to strip out the door completely. The first time can be a pain but you'll be able to strip the second door in minutes, not hours! Worth a full strip if you want to treat and paint the whole door properly. I went full strip when I painted mine, which also gave me an opportunity to completely spray out the inside of the door with rust proofing wax and take the windows for tint.

Alternatively - I would wind the window down into the door, remove window seals from around the window frame, remove outer door handle, remove inner door trim and mask off the doors internals. Run masking tape along the gap where the window exits the door. Any mask lines here will be hidden when seal/trim back on.
