    Snorkel for 2012 Defender.

    Hi all,

I'm a newbie to AULRO and it looks awesome. I'm looking at putting a snorkel on a 2012 Defender so I went into my nearest ARB store to sus it out. The guys at the store told me that they don't have one for the 2.2 litre engine that the Defender has changed over to. Has anyone out there fitted a snorkel to one of the new 2.2 Defenders? If so what product did you go with?

    Cheers,

    Danial.

I think you might want to try a new ARB store as I am sure that the Safari fits. I have the LR RAI but it is quite expensive.

Thanks. Will have a look around. Not much to choose from out this way though. The store is an ARB stockist only, probably should have mentioned that before.

    Hey Alra,
I'm in the same boat with my 2013 110 I have on order.
I also had my ARB guy telling me they had no listing for the 2.2 (or the 2.4 for that matter) but I'm sure I've seen 2.2/2.4 Defenders running around with Safari snorkels on them.
    Quick question for you;
Where is your air intake and air filter located?
All Defenders I've seen with a snorkel, have them running down the drivers side into the side panel infront of the door. But I've looked at the 2013MY Defenders and it appears they have the intake on the LEFT hand top wing where the chequer plate protectos go.
    Cheers,
    Jono

Traditionally the top wing left side intake is for the heater intake. Side wing left or right side used for air intake. Looking at this puma I can see air intake on drivers side

Safari snorkels have left side and right side defender variants. 300tdi snorkel and newer goes on the right side, 200tdi the only one I know that uses left side. Defender bodywork has not changed over the years, so just buy one that goes on the side where your intake is.

    Jono,

You are one step ahead of me mate. I didn't look under the hood before ordering the 110. I would just be assuming that the snorkel would be going on the side that is easiest to fit the snorkel.

    Cheers,

    Danial.

    Thanks Manic and Danial,
I thought this only because I saw (and heard) the intake on the right side wing, as you mentioned, on the 110 I test drove. This was a late 2011/early 2012 model I believe. But then looking at the 2013MY new ones in the yard, the plastic opening where this was in the right side wing, had a solid plastic peice in place and the opening in the top left wing was opened up with the filter (or what I am 95% sure is the air filter) just behind it under the bonnet. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Still will be 2-3 months before I get it anyway
But can't wait for my first Defender!

My 2012 has the safari snorkel, purchased via ARB, went throught the same problems when I went to get it, ARB had none listed. They chased it up with Safari and it is the same snorkel as the 2.4 Puma's.

On my 2012 110 the air intake is on the right just in front of the door and the air filter box is just behind the right head light.
I have been looking around for a snorkel as well and found out a good bit of information - raised air intakes are different to snorkels, be carefully ordering on line as the cheaper raised air intakes are not water proof.....
