    Defender 2.2

To all you Roosters .. My question is this , is the Defender 2.2 the same engine as in the Range Rover Evoque ? I see the Evoque has a bit more power than the Defender ... Also are they still from the Ford Duratec range , or the Duratorq ? . Or are they now Land Rover 2.2s ?. I know Land Rover are going to build there own engines , but I don't know if they doing it yet ...

I found this, it should answer the question.
Must be different tuning for The various models as I think the Defender still has 90kw same as the td5.

Although the same displacement, they are completely different engines.

Currently, the engines are still supplied by Ford.

Yes, thanks for stating that. The wiki references clearly state that the Defender 2.2 is a different engine to the one used in the Evoque and Freelander although both coming under the Duratorq designation so the final line in the 'cut & paste' on my original post would appear to be incorrect.

Oh well, never believe everything you read.

Hi to the Camel , for that info . The reason I asked the question ..Summiitt asked 2.4. to 2.2 ,so i thuoght what is the differance , other than a bit smaller . I've now looked on wikapeddia , at the Ford Duratorq range , so i know a bit more .After looking at the list I think the 3lt , would be a good option for Australia . After all Triumph use a 2.2 lt in the road Rocket ..so thanks mate ,all the best ....jimr1

The Puma 2.2 is a Ford Duratorq engine. It is basically the 2.4 minus 200cc.

The FL2/Evoque 2.2 is a PSA unit, used extensively by Citroen, Peugeot, & Ford. Details here: PSA EW/DW engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    DW12
The 2.2 L (2179 cc) DW12 has a bore of 85 mm (3.3 in) and a stroke of 96 mm (3.8 in). Unlike the initial DW10 designs, it was fitted with 16 valves from the beginning, and made its debut in the 2000 with the Citroën C5, Peugeot 406, Peugeot 406 Coupe and Peugeot 607, being used only in the larger models. In 2006 it was added to the PSA/Ford family, with power reaching 170 PS (125 kW). Land Rover currently uses this engine in the new Freelander where it produces 160PS. This is Ford's only current use for this engine, which is expected to power the next generations of both the Mondeo and Jaguar X-Type. A different 2.2L engine, Ford's ZSD-422 with a displacement of 2198 cc, will be used in the Peugeot LCV range of vans. The DW12C is Euro V-compliant.
