    TD5 Disaster????

Today while I was changing the injector loom (the electrical connectors on the old one were full of oil!) I dropped the connector retaining clip on the injector second from the driver. I cannot find it in the oil near the injector and have no idea where it has gone

Am I correct in assuming I should not start the engine until I have recovered the clip?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I recover it?

I am hoping this is not a total disaster

As the head is aluminium a magnet might find it still around the head somewhere.

Even if it finds its way to the sump its not likely to cause damage as it should stay on the bottom. I can't remember if the sump plug has a magnet or not but if it does then you might find it there at next oil change. You might want to check the plug after its been for a short run and had a chance to move around the bottom.

    Hi Graeme,
I had my sump plug out the week before last, I don't remember seeing a magnet, sorry Howard. Magnet, as others have mentioned, you'll be surprised how effectice this method of searching is.
Just out of interest, the oil soaked injector cables and the leaking oil, how did you find the problem, or at least how did you become aware? Mess on the garage floor?

I have been gettting oil down to the ECU for some time so I knew there was a problem. Main reason for acting though is that I have had intermittent performance issues (no torque at low revs) for some time and not been able to trakc it down. In the hope I can fix it I have put in a new MAF, installed an EGR cutoff kit and am in the process of doing the injector loom.

If the problem is still there after this (and I have a horrible feeling it may be), well
