    TD5 Fuel leak query

    Hello All,

    I have a Fuel leak form the rear of my TD5 engine. I have overhauled / replaced regulator.
    I still have a leak. However the regulator feels dry. Dripping of gearbox.

    I see on the back of the head that there are two Allen key grub screws..

    I was wondering what do they do....they feel wet around them.
    Could these be the cause of my leak.

    ok...lots more investigation.

    I am now thinking it is leaking from the return pipe. Only place I can feel diesel after a run. I had a rag wrapped around it and it was very slightly damp after a road test.

    Any solutions to fixing the pipe if this is the problem.

    Im pretty sure above the starter motor there is a fuel regulator or something similar that starts to leak.

    Im pretty sure the fix is a whole new part. The new part has been fixed so it wont happen again.

    ok....still not having a lot of luck here....

    I have fitted a new genuine regulator and still have deisel leaking at the back of the engine. Regulator appears dry but looks like the block form the head down is wet....can it leak from the head gasket!!!

    I cannot see it leaking on idle. How do you rev these cars...by myself.

    HELP!!!!

    be sure you tightened the bottom bolt of the regulator block,
    its very easy to find the bottom rear inlet manifold bolt and tighten that by mistake, as they are next to each other.

    Just checking so don't be offended.....you did fit a new gasket yes? And it was the right way round? (Just double checking)

    Easiest way to test it is to spray the whole area with degreaser, leave for a few mins then wash off with water.
    Then coat the area in brake cleaner so it dries up nice and quick.
    Then put the ignition on position 2 and pump the accelerator pedal 5 times.
    Your engine warning light will come on and flash and your fuel system will self prime by forcing fuel round at a slightly higher pressure than normal. (Service routine when replacing fuel filter)

    Do this a few times and then look where you suspect the leak to be coming from. As you aren't running the engine the leak should be a lot easier to find as the fan/driving wind won't be blowing it all about.
    If you still have the original rocker cover gasket on you probably have the plastic/foam pannel at the back of the cylinder head....rip that out and it will give you more room to see with a small mirror.
    Itl be stiff but give it a good hard yank
