Why not keep it Tdi? A far better engine than most mechanical IP Jap small capacity engines IMO.

This from an older Terrano and the IP is mechanical. I figured a 2.7TD engine could be a slight improvement and a working tdi engine is well overpriced in Oz. Try to get a running one for under $1500-$2,500.

Ah, didn't know they existed, the last Mech IP I saw on a Td27 was in a Navarra...

I have a customer with one in his 1983 RRC hooked up to the ZF auto. It goes OK but has an ongoing overheating on hills problem. Maybe has something to do with the excessive fuelling it has to make it go UP hills

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

There was a $1,500 300TDi in the AULRO markets last week. It may still be there.

Any adapter is going to cost the best part of $1,000 even if it was an OEM Land Rover one.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

If you are regularly cooking Tdi's then something is wrong... Huge spotlights in front of the rad? Clogged core internally and externally? Temp gauge hidden or being ignored? Air Lock in the heater matrix? When you fit the next Tdi, jump onto Ebay, buy yourself one of these... item No 180854951416. It's an 'auto digital gauge with audible alarm'. You can set the warning to go off at a desired temp (set it lower and drive by it), they work well, and the sender is usually mounted towards the rear of the block where the engine runs hottest. Kill or cure springs to mind! Good luck fella!

Why not put a Watchdog TM2 Combo on the engine - you will get both a visual and audio indication if you loose coolant or the head is starting to get hot.

I agree with Sitec on the heating issue...

I've owned four 300Tdi Defenders over a 16 year span with one of them doing over 300,000km from new. I never had any overheating problems with any of them (except for a dodgy gauge caused by a bad earth!), so there is a very good chance that something else is causing it.

Foreign transplants has a habit of quickly chewing through the initial budget, as a very good mate found out shoe horning an Iveco 2.5D (similar to the F1D) into a 110. Seemed a good idea as the Panther CLV is an awesome vehicle, but the list of issues would be too long for a single thread...

Good luck which ever way you choose to go!

    Cheers,

    Lou

I have a 2.7 Navara diesel in my S2a, It has an adapter plate for the non syncro Landy gearbox, It goes ok, well it did before I stripped it down to 326,187 pieces and started to rebuild it (still in progress). I think the adapter plate came from Mark's Adapters from memory. I dont know if its the same motor as in the Terrano and just turbo'd though.

A TD27 is a TD27 is a TD27. They were put in Navaras and Pathfinders and a few others I think, in Australia. In the Terrano (Jap grey import), they also had a turbo attached, making it a TD27T (Nissan engine naming conventions are pretty simple). The engines are all the same, and if you have a non-turbo, you can bolt on a range of turbos if you get the right exhaust maninfold.

Early engines had mechanical injections, and only a few later ones had electronic injection systems (TD27eti). I had the injectors serviced on mine and were told they were the same injectors used in the Patrol TD42 6 cyl diesels so really common.

On older TD27 engines, there is a vacuum pump on the rear of the alternator. Later ones, I think, are located on the block.

I bought a whole Terrano from the local wreckers for $1200. It was in good enough nick that we took it for a drive first, but there was too much rust to get it reregistered.

Driveshafts could be interesting as the front driveshaft is on the vehicle left on the Nissan. I know my Disco 2 has it on the right hand side. If there is an adapter plate available commercially, then that might be a better option in the end.

Just to cause complete confusion, if you can get the TD27 to mate up to your gearbox, then you could instead use a Nissan QD32 (yes, a 3.2L diesel) which is newer engine also used in Navaras and Pathfinders. Basically the same block with bigger cylinders and a little more modern. A TD27 turbo will bolt directly on.
