Thread: Extra hand grips for MY13 Deefer.

I'm in the same boat.. except I'm going to keep mum about the handle for now - the financial controller in our family wants tree sliders fitted. Not to protect the car, but to help climb in. I'm not going to argue that one. I'll wait till those are fitted, then look at adding a handle.

funny you ask, I put one in last weekend for the same reason. I used one out of a Tdi 110 so it keeps the theme original so to speak. However not the most bomber feeling hand grip in existence.

My roof lining had a good 25mm of void between the lining and the metal frame that runs above the door. The frame lip, which you drill into is only about 20mm in height so you need to pay a bit of attention to get it square.

To fill the gap i moulded a bit of pine 280L x 40 square to match the frames metal vertical face, and the bevelled hood lining. Glued it in place with Sikkaflex. Then used 10g 45mm metal thread phillps' screw to hold the handle on.

You will first need to remove the A pillar cover strip and the two plugs holding the roof lining on. They are a bitch, and LR want around $7 each for them so respect them as much as possible.

Just be mindful, if you bugger you hood lining its insane anounts on money to replace it. Good luck

We did a similar thing using Series 1 Disco grabs, drilling 4 holes in the inside gutter lip and gluing on a piece of flat bar with 4 tapped holes on the inside of the gutter, to line up with those in the grab.

As for the roof lining studs, you can get similar ones from the auto accessories places

People have been known to change the inside door handles with the soft Mudstuff ones and then mount one of the door handles above the door. Mounting them would still be as per the preceding posts

You could obviously just buy an extra handle from the dealer or the wreckers to keep the same "theme" going in the car.

I've also seen panic handles/ hand holds out of a Mk5 VW Golf mounted above the doors. They are pretty nifty as they are sprung loaded and flick upwards and out the way when not used and the slightly off white color coding works well with the Deefer's head lining.

That sounds a better option than mine. Did you achive that with the hood lining in?
Mine seems ok but hasn't had the wife swinging of it yet. It seems sound but the land rover handle flexes as you grab it, which doesn't mean it weak, just not rock solid with no flex like jap cars seem to have.
