Tdi
I have a Tdi which has a disco auto.
It was converted before I got it.
I've done over 200k and tow a boat (trailer sailer)
I love it.
You need the Defender transfer not the disco and I think you can fit a later ZF which will let you fit lock up on lower gears.
It needs a large oil cooler and a bit more fuel.
I have had 2 counties and 2 Tdi and the set up has transformed the vehicle.
The benefits in the bush outweigh any loss of engine braking.
It would not affect the resale either.

Fit the disco transfer and it wont use any more fuel and will be slightly quieter at the lower revs. On Easter monday i drove to Yepoon from Brisbane, filled the tank up the neck when i left and topped up at GinGin up the filler neck again and let it settle, 346kms for 31.7L so very happy for a 300tdi 110 with the spare tyre on the bonnet, steel bull and scrub bars and a full length roof rack.

Thanks everyone for your imput. It now gives me a lot to think about, and to undertake more research. Time to get in touch with ashcrofts and ask a few questions.

My old work converted 2 puma left hand rive 90s for pinewood studios whilst they were filming the latest bond film as the girl couldn't drive manual.
We used the Ashcroft conversions.....once the gear changes were set up right they were mint. Would totally recommend them.
