I've just spent a couple of weeks back home in the Top End (break from work overseas) continuing the ongoing construction and development of our home out bush. Over the last couple of weeks the Top End had some of the heaviest monsoonal showers so far this year, so the 8km track from our front gate into our camp was good and moist

Hector our 110 (MY2012) was worked hard -as usual.Sometimes carrying over a tonne in the tray, the Land Rover drove in and out of the camp almost daily, hauling loads through the wet clay, mud and forests of spear grass. With differential locked, and wearing his muddies, Hector was unstoppable, ploughing through the mud like it was trundling along on the bitumen.

Now to put this in context, in the week we were working at the camp, a Telstra Patrol, a contractors (new) V8 70 series Tojo and a neighbours old 70 series Tojo all bogged themselves on the same track. Neither of the Tojo utes was hauling a load. But Hector just chugged through the mud again and again, without ever losing traction. Now to be fair to the oriental pickups, I guess I was more familiar with the track and so took the best lines.

But -Puma naysayers please take note- Hector was simply outstanding, as hard-working and capable as any earlier Land Rover model I have used.

Sure, the 2.2 is a little revvy, but you'll find the necessary grunt in there if you go looking for it. Even without Traction Control (Hector's a Heavy Duty rig), the Land Rover shamed the V8 Tojo. And puts a massive grin on my face every time I try and squeeze myself into the cab.

Definitely fit for purpose. Job Done!

Just luvin' my Land Rover. It's something special.

G-day Alan, what a great story, I love hearing about a Landy being used for it's designed purpose. Not show ponying around or driving through a ditch full of mud just cause its there but actually getting you where you need to be through very trying conditions. Hope your stay at home is a pleasant one.
