    CRAB bar in a Defender

    Hi all,

I know this has been mentioned in another topic but thought I would also ask the good folk her in Deefer section if anyone has installed or knows of a place in Melbourne that installs CRAB bars. I have called (Vehiquip, AVA, OL, Kids in Cars & Tradesman Vehicle accessories) and none of them make or install them. I know people have done there own anchorage points but not willing to risk safety and a run in with the law and insurance company on the matter. I know there is a mob in sydney that does it (i think in Minto) which I am awaiting their reply.

Is there anyone here that travels with kids in a Deefer and how are your kids with the ride ?

    Thanks for your help

    Hi,
My kids love the defender as they can see easy out the windows.......
It is quite narrow and fitting 3 car seats across the middle row is a struggle......

I had a CRAB bar installed in the NT. I am sure there are places in Melb that can do it.......
There is a place in Sydney which installs them into the seat back, which is the best set up I have seen..... It was in a post approx 3 months ago....

    Cheers

Here's a list of the RACV approved installers.
I've been offered similar bars across the back of other vehicles where they cannot get to the floorpan because of all the trim & plastic parts.

I'd phone them first and get a price, they will probably have to order parts in.

Mine was installed by the dealer I got the Defender from (12years ago). Not sure if it was an LR part.

Found a supplier of the bar.

    Scroll down to 46A
Automotive Restraint Fitters - Seat Belt Accessories - Child Car Seats - Baby Car Seats - TOTLOK - Bracket's and Mounts

Looks like these guys supply the trade so any installer should be able to get it for you.

I'd also suggest the registered restraint installer in Belgrave listed on the RACV/VICROADS site. They are able to install the restraints into the floor, which saves having that bar in the back. (total was around $250 for three points). I've had this done in each of the three defenders I've owned. The kids love the Defender.

(P.S if you don't want the restraint points fitted then looks for foam boosters they don't need restraint points. )
