Sand it down, re-seal the gutters, prime and paint with cans?

I would consider white gloss enamel rattle cans (I've used VHT cans before with good results VHT Quick Coat™ ) because the paint job of the roof does not come under scrutiny and I don't have spray gun equipment or paint brush patience.

You could take the roof off, sand it, paint it, put it back and and seal it up in a weekend fairly easily (I did this but had a panel shop do the painting). Not the quickest way to do it but it's a lot easier to sand and paint when its on the ground.

I'm sure if you did the prep your local spray shop would blow some two pack white over it for a lot less than $1000, on or off the car. A lot easier for them if it's off as well, saves masking time and finding a ladder big enough to get up there. Getting the roof to them might be a bit of a challenge

You can also buy most auto colours in spray cans in enamel or 2K, but I think it could be difficult to get a good finish on such a big panel, not that anyone really sees it. You also don't want to be spraying 2k without the right safety gear either.

I'd get quotes just to mask and paint and do the prep work yourself

Thanks guys, will look for a preping guide and get cracking. Found a place in the UK that will ship coach paint so might even do the whole lot myself - cheaper still !

I knew a couple chaps in the vintage Jaguar club who refused to get their paint from anywhere else...

I imagine you will need to seal or varnish the surface for the local conditions?
