Removing EGR cooler?
G'day Fellas I have a 2004 TD5 Defender is it possible to remove the EGR cooler and cooler plumbing. I want to simplify the system. I have already lost the EGR valve on my travels. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave,
Yes you can. You can also remove all the solenoids for it as well.
I have removed it on a few td5s without issues.
I cant find any pictures but from memory I made up a reducer-joiner for the inlet and outlet pipes as they were different sizes, but it should all be pretty self explanatory if you give it a go.
I may be able to get some pictures at the weekend if you needed any.
Cheers
Pete

go even better and remove all the piping from the oil cooler (under ex manifold) the metal pipe behind the head, the hoses under the inlet manifold, and replace the 4 way joiner under exp tank with a 3 way, you do away with about 1.5-2m of un-necessary hose and joins.
bung off the oil cooler outlet.

And getting rid of all the stuff mentioned above makes it much easier to get at the engine - simplifies things no end.
Did it several years ago on my 2004 td5 and have never regretted it - same time as I replaced all the coolant hoses. Arranged for the hose with a 4 way ftg to be replaced with one with a 3 way fitting which from recollection was from an earlier model td5.
