    Chassis VIN location 1991 Defender

In my restoration of my Defender I have painted over the VIN and can't identify the exact location, so rather than remove the paint from the whole area it would be good to know exactly where I should start.

My vehicle is a UK/Solihull built 1991 Defender.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    lost vin

gdat i have a 93 defender and the chassie num. is right front of the wheel and the vin should have the number on the plate on the brake booster, or yours could be like mine as i have a galvo 120" and the dmv took my aussie id tag and have given me a piece of paper. supposed to get a new tag, so far it's been over 12 months and still waiting. hope that helps. cheers wally

Confident of the general area where the VIN is located, the problem is the digits are very light because the chassis was sandblasted before I got it.

I can't remember if its stamped on the bracket under the RHS rail that the jack inserts into (like the Australian perenties/110s) or near the bottom of the main chassis rail or in the middle of the chassis rail like my RRc.

What I want to do is remove the bare minimum of the protective coating system so that only the chassis number is uncovered.

Hi, I just checked an old 92 / 93 chassis on a 110 we have up the back.

The number is on the lower section of the chassis, center of the piece which has been welded on.

Erich's is in the same spot as my '85, so theoretically yours should be there too.

Only issue is that your chassis was an Aussie JRA Moorebank built one, but given two different ones.

I just worry because in the series Landies UK, Au and South Africa all had different locations for their chassis numbers the only one missing being rear right corner.
