    TDI to TD5 or Isuzu?

Ok I have a 300 TDI 110 ute, really cant cope with the asthmatic performance anymore.

    So 3 main options are:

1 - Fit a upgraded intercooler & turbo / fueling tweak. Obviously the cheapest option.. how much difference does it really make?

2 - Fit a TD5. I used to own a TD5 110 station wagon, loved it went well (was chipped). How easy is this? Expensive? Anybody done it before (cant find anything on it, i did a search)

3 - Fit a 4bd1t . This is my favorite option but im guessing the most expensive. I dont have the knowhow / tools / space to do this myself. Is there anybody in VIC who can do this from start to finish and how much would i be looking at? Would my r380 cope or would that need changing as well? Is this going to have more power / torque / driveability / better fuel consumption than a chipped TD5?

    Thanks

If you have to pay someone to do the work, option 1 is the only answer as the other 2 options will mean spending more than the vehicle is worth to achieve.

Either sell and buy a Td5 or turbo county, or tune the Tdi.

The Tdi is a great little engine when VNT't and bigger Intercooler etc fitted....

Variable-geometry turbocharger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

there are a few kits to suit 300Tdi, makes a great difference in eliminating lag, and allows quick and large boost I would go with either and Allisport (UK) or Motor and Diesel (UK) kit. They are very comprehensive but best of all they FIT first time....

There are a few threads here on 300Tdi and VNT fitments.

In a Defender they go very well.

In the mean time do not test drive a 4bd1t otherwise all the tweaking and mods to options 1&2 will feel useless

Agreed.. Tune the Tdi properly. It should fly. With the right intercooler, turbo and bloke on the pump adjustments you'll be happy. Fit an EGT gauge though and keep a close eye on the exhaust temp when getting your boot into it!
