Thread: How to Fit a Winch Bar

Like all winch bars IMO you need to replace the original bumper mounting bolts with High Tensile steel ones. The diameter will always be the same but the HT ones just have significantly higher sheer strength.

Having said all that, any attachment will only be as strong as the material and dimensions of the bar mountings themselves. A lot of people therefore just use the original ones, but I've always preferred HT ones.

I'm sure someone on here will be able to give you the bolt dimensions, otherwise take one out as a sample to buy the 4 you need.

Does anyone know the colour name/code for the beigish insert on the front of the whinch bar?

You talking about the brushed bare aluminium bit with the holes...?

The centre piece is brushed alloy - Not painted....

Bar should come with HT bolts for the verticle plane and HT (larger dia too) bolts for the horizontal mounts...

If you go down to your local engineering shop with the stock bolts (Which have an engineered rating of 5.5 out of 11) and ask for some high tensile bolts the same length and thread pitch as yours. They will give you the same bolt but with a rating of 9 (which is sufficient). They cost about $6 a bolt. You will find when you fit it up you you will have to tighten the top 4 bolts up really tight othersise the bar will move a bit.

When you fit you winch it will probaly come with short bolts for mounting so you will need to get longer bolts too (Mine were 40mm so I had to get 70 mm)
